Faults

My faults, I did not recognize
Until another wore them.
My words, too loud, I did not hear
Until another spoke them.

I would in shame, my weakness hide,
If when the time comes to decide.
Between defeat and honor lost,
I under estimate the cost
and chose a victory.

when everything is over and done,
and I look back at the victory won,
It would be hollow; useless; bare,
if I could find no honor there.
for everyone to see.

Then let me first, my honor save
and count as small, the price I gave,
Though great the pain and sharp the knife
That severed wealth and love and life,
But saved my sanity.
